Kati Roll in Texas

Downtown Dallas on Elm Street since April 2024, and Plano on State Highway 121 since that August. Addresses, hours, and what to order at both.

For twenty-two years, every Kati Roll in the United States was in New York City. Then, in April 2024, we opened on Elm Street in downtown Dallas, our first store outside the state. Four months later a second Texas store opened in Plano. Here is the guide to both.

Dallas, on Elm Street

Our Dallas store opened on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 1322 Elm Street downtown. It was our first store outside New York and, as QSR Magazine reported at the time, our first franchise location, opened with our franchise partner Hebron Sher and his partner Allen Humphris.

It is a big room by our standards: 2,200 square feet with seats for up to 50 people. And it has the thing every Kati Roll should have, a brick wall covered in Bollywood film posters, above a wood counter. Read more about the poster walls.

Local Profile noted in 2024 that our stores in downtown areas are popular with office workers and do most of their business in the daytime. Dallas opens at 11am every day for the lunch crowd, and on Friday and Saturday nights it stays until midnight.

Dallas hours

  • Sunday to Thursday: 11am to 10pm.
  • Friday and Saturday: 11am to midnight.

Plano, on State Highway 121

Our second Texas store, in Plano, opened on August 24, 2024, at 5588 State Highway 121, Suite 100. Local Profile covered the opening two days later. The franchise partner behind Dallas opened Plano too, and told the paper the plan had included the suburbs from the start.

We always had the suburbs on the mind.

Hebron Sher, franchise owner, in Local Profile, Aug 26 2024

Dallas came first, in the heart of the city. Plano, two days into business when the story ran, took the roll out to the suburbs.

Plano keeps the same late weekend hours as Dallas, until midnight on Friday and Saturday, and opens at 11am every day of the week.

Plano hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 11am to 10pm.
  • Friday and Saturday: 11am to midnight.

Halal, in Texas as in New York

The food in Texas is the food we have made on MacDougal Street since 2002, cooked from the same recipes with the same spice blends. All of our meats are certified halal, and our chicken is antibiotic and hormone free. That goes for every store.

The bowls are an easy place to start. Every bowl comes with paratha wedges, spicy mashed potato and a colorful salad with lime cilantro dressing, topped with white raita, green chutney and caramelized red onions. Have it on aromatic biryani rice, or as a salad bowl without it.

The Chicken Rice Bowl is grilled chicken tikka, the Shami Rice Bowl is mutton shami kabab, and the Paneer Rice Bowl is grilled achari paneer, which makes it a good vegetarian pick. Each store's full menu is on its own page, so check Dallas or Plano before you go.

Ordering ahead

Both Texas stores take online orders through Toast, linked from each store page and from our order page. Order for pickup and skip the line, or come in and eat under the posters in Dallas. For an office lunch or a party, our catering menu lets you pick the store closest to you and set a day and time.

What Texas started

Dallas was not just a new city. It was the start of our franchise program, after years of saying no to people who asked. The story of that decision is in why we started franchising, and the two Texas stores are where it began. Two years later the program brought us to Journal Square in New Jersey.

If you are in North Texas and have never had a kati roll, start with what a kati roll is. Then come see us on Elm Street or on 121.
